The Latin American Congress of Probability and Mathematical Statistics (CLAPEM,) is the main event in probability and statistics in the region, having been held roughly every two or three years for almost 30 years.

It is organized under the auspices of the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability and the SLAPEM (Latin-American Society on Probability and Mathematical Statistics). The series of CLAPEMs has greatly contributed to the development of probability and statistics in Latin America by promoting regional cooperation, increasing the scholarly level of the research work in the region, facilitating the collaboration between Latin American researchers and colleagues from the rest of the world. The first CLAPEM was held in Caracas, Venezuela in 1980. Since then they have been held in Mexico DF, Sao Pablo, Lima, Montevideo, Viña del Mar, Cartagena, Córdoba, La Habana and Punta del Este

During its history the CLAPEM has greatly contributed to the development of probability and statistics in Latin America by promoting regional and global cooperation.

On this ocassion the event is organized by the Universidad de Costa Rica, the Universidad Nacional and the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica.
